Buy this book if you develop stored procedures - end of story; just ignore the XML part if you have SQL 2005. Ken Henderson's "The Guru's Guide to SQL Server Architecture and Internals" - This book is written for SQL Server 2000 but many of the same concepts are still valid for SQL Server 2005.
